The Vikings are coming! Step into the world of Queen Kraka and King Ragnar, and explore the Viking Age like never before, in a brand new adventure opening in London this spring.
Love the drama, grit and sword-clanging action of Vikings on Netflix? This immersive exhibition pulls you deeper into the world of the most formidable Viking family: King Ragnar Lodbrok, the wise Queen Kraka (Aslaug) and their world-conquering sons — Ivar The Boneless, Bjorn Ironside, Hvitserk and Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye.
The multi-sensory experience goes beyond the historical facts and battlefield drama, offering you an insight into the core elements of Viking existence, and the personal stories of those who lived through these tumultuous times — both real and mythological. Witness Queen Kraka’s evolution from the hidden daughter of the dragon-slayer Sigurd and shield-maiden Brynhildr, to a respected völva (seeress) who was essential to Ragnar’s success.
As soon as you step inside Vikings: The Immersive Experience, high-resolution video technology transports you to 739 AD, the year Scandinavian warriors raided the monastery at Lindisfarne on England’s north-east coast. Wander through the Forest of Time, an immersive landscape of towering trees and forest fauna, where display boards detail the daily life, rituals, and beliefs of these fearless Norsemen.
At the centre of the forest is the mythological Tree Of Light, also known as the World Tree or Yggdrasil, believed to connect the heavens, the middle world and the underworld. There are replica Viking items to get up close and personal to, and plenty of opportunities for you to get hands-on with their world, including touch screens showing the conquest and history of the Viking raiders, a ‘talking head portrait’ screen to answer your questions, and a knotting station where you can have a go at tying a classic Viking Knot. A full audio guided tour explains the fascinating history of these Norsemen and women.
No Viking experience is complete without a longship, so continue through to the Mist of Time, a cinematic, fog-filled portal, which uses projections and a sweeping musical score room to bring the story of Kraka and Ragnar to life in a 30-minute immersive show. Take a seat on board the magnificent longship, which becomes part of the epic performance.
