A winter lights display has appeared around the Southbank Centre, offering a free illuminated exploration of the area.
Physically visible all the time, they naturally look their best at night, and maybe if you don’t object, just after it’s been raining when reflections are at their best.
It’s a fairly small widespread display, so you can do the whole lot in maybe 20 minutes, and some might not even look like temporary art at all. For the instagrammers, there’s a large cube on the upper deck you can walk inside, although I think it looks better from the outside, casting coloured beams over the concrete.
There are also a couple of animated projections on two sides of the Royal Festival Hall that look a bit lost, as if something is missing to explain them.
The installations are switched on daily from 4pm to 11pm and will be in place until Sunday 18th January 2026.
The exhibition features work by Samia Halaby, David Batchelor, Rafaël Rozendaal, France Lise McGurn, Jakob Kvist, Nathaniel Rackowe, Squire & Partners, Liz West, Otecki and Tavares Strachan.
Probably not part of the art trail
There will also be the annual light show in Canary Wharf in January, and the City of London is teasing details of a light show at five locations areound the City at the end of January.
