For eight days only, a large light display is filling the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
Some of it is visible from outside, behind the fences, but the headline light show is inside the chapel, where animated light displays have transformed the interior into a huge 3D cinema screen.
This is Time by Luxmuralis, a combination of light and sound that starts in the Painted Hall, takes in the Ripley Tunnel, Queen Mary Undercroft, the Chapel, then continues outside through the Colonnades, ending in the Courtyard.
It’s also customised to each space, so there are the glowing chimneys in the Painted Hall, followed by a smaller light display in the undercroft.
Then the chapel, which almost vanishes under the lighting display that fills it.
Outside, one of the two Wren domes has been turned into a giant clock, and, curiously, the audio track reminds me of a blend of music from a Peter Greenaway movie and the terrifying rhyming chanting from the first time-themed Sapphire and Steel story.

The lighting show is open until Saturday 22nd November, with timeslots available every 15 minutes between 5pm to 9pm.
On Sunday 16th November, the Painted Hall will be closed due to private events. The rest of the Time route will remain open as usual. Visitors with Luxmuralis tickets are able to return to visit Connection and Identity at any other time before 25th January 2026.

The Old Royal Naval College is in Greenwich town centre, about a 10-minute walk from Greenwich station (Southeastern/Thameslink/DLR). Note that the Cutty Sark DLR station in Greenwich town centre is currently closed.
