Spectacular projections set to an atmospheric soundscape will be installed in a central London church this winter.
St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square will host Life, a colourful display celebrating the natural world by projecting images onto the outside of the building, and throughout the underground Crypt, culminating in a light show filling the whole of the church.
Begin by seeing the exterior architecture of the church — which is home to a special ‘warped window‘ — shown off in its best light, literally, before you head inside and walk through the illuminated crypt, to a bespoke soundtrack. Finish the 40-minute experience with a seated sequence in the main part of the church, a ‘dazzling journey across night and day exploring different aspects of our world’.
Life is the work of artist Peter Walker and Luxmuralis, the arts company which took over the same building in January 2023 for Space, The Universe and Everything, a light show which celebrated life on Earth and beyond. Luxmuralis is also putting together a regal light show, Crown and Coronation, to be projected onto the Tower of London in November 2023.
Life takes place at St Martin-in-the-Fields on Trafalgar Square, 30 January-3 February 2024. Tickets are on sale now, priced £8-£12 for adults, and £5 for under 16s. Under 2s are free, but there is no pushchair storage available.
