One of the capital’s best-loved museums is keeping its doors open after hours on Friday 6 October for an evening of fun — especially for students.
London Calling at London Transport Museum is all about getting to know your new city and the people you share it with — via games, workshops, performances and more. Whether you’re looking to make friends away from the typical student night scene (though don’t worry, there is a bar!) or get the inside scoop on the best things to do in London, this Friday Late has it covered.
Event highlights include an LED retro poster workshop, friendship speed dating (so no stress if you’re flying solo), a trio of mini engineering activities, and a tour led by London Transport Museum’s Head of Design. Opportunities to explore future careers, from engineering to branding, will also be available.
There are also some fantastic prizes to be won. Come dressed up as your favourite tube station and take part in costume competition which could bag you a rather slick London Underground roundel-shaped light box. Or join a London history/legends-themed scavenger hunt around the museum for the chance to win an iconic London poster to adorn your new digs.
On top of all that, there’s a DJ set from Sean Wilkinson, London-centric poetry by former Young People’s Laureate Theresa Lola, and plenty of food — courtesy of Mr Burrito — and drink to fuel the fun.
The whole thing has been curated with the help of students from the University of West London (UWL), with the aim of giving their peers a warm welcome to the capital.
