The Del Mar Races, San Diego, California, known as “Where The Turf Meets The Surf” and as “Cool as Ever,” is a luxurious horse-racing venue in the western United States.
Built by a partnership that included Bing Crosby and actors Pat O’Brien, Gary Cooper, and Joe E., it offers a grand experience for those seeking a giddyup in their luxury social life.
With a capacity of 44,000, it is the second largest horse-racing venue in the western United States.
The Turf Club, reserved for members, offers three tiers with dining tables, while the Turf Club veranda provides a stunning view of the finish line. Additionally, there are four-seater tables and chairs with a full menu available.
For those interested in large transactions, there is a dedicated watching station in the Turf Club, with a minimum of $500 and vouchers required.
The decor in the Turf Club features beautiful, wooden, carved artwork and hand painted wall murals.
The Del Mar Turf Club had 500 tables, and the location near the finish line depended on seniority. The longest membership so far was 45 years. Jimmy O’Hara, the Maitre’d, has been a beloved character at the club since 1989.
One outdoor event sponsored by Veuve Cliquot, added a classic, bubbly touch to which no-one can object!
As you enter the main entrance, the Del Mar race track and clubhouse, with its half stone structure, will capture your heart. The RaceTrack, well-kept with a central lake and water fountains, adds to the charm of the venue.
The 17 Hands restaurant at the event offered a wide variety of food options. There were also several vendors and plenty of opportunities to take photos with sponsors. The restaurant opened at 12:00 p.m. and by 1:00 p.m., it was already very busy.
The races started at 2:00 p.m. with an expected attendance of 40,000, and the final races were scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and everyone was very jolly and festive, whether their horse won or not.
The Turf club was well laid out, allowing guests to easily mingle, watch the races, and grab a drink from the bar within a few minutes.
The outfits worn by attendees were outrageously extravagant, even Gary Glitter would be proud.
There were lots of smiles all around, and the men looked very dapper in their extravagant suits.
The Del Mar Opening Day Hat Contest is a highly anticipated event that takes place annually at the Del Mar Racetrack in California. This contest allows attendees to showcase their creativity and fashion sense by wearing unique and eye-catching hats.

and the 2023 winner is….. in a blaze of glory… trending Barbie pink horse made from over 100 pink flowers. It was just stunning!
Overall, the event was met with a thundering resounding hoof-pounding success!
